Workspaces

Each account on this computer comes with two "workspaces". Each workspace shares the same desktop, but you have have different windows open in each workspace. For instance, you can have Firefox open in one workspace and MythTV running in the other. To switch between workspaces, use the controls in the bottom right corner of the panel. You can also switch between workspaces using <ctrl>+<alt>+<left> and <ctrl>+<alt>+<right>. This is necessary if the panel isn't visible, for instance in MythTV.

Firefox

Use Firefox to browse the web. Launch Firefox from the panel at the top of the screen.

OpenOffice

OpenOffice is a free version of Microsoft Office. Launch OpenOffice from Applications > Office.

OpenOffice opens Microsoft Office documents. The interface is quite similar to that of Microsoft Office.

Rhythmbox

Use Rhythmbox to play MP3s. Launch Rhythmbox from Applications > Sound & Video > Rhythmbox.

Rhythmbox lists MP3s shared on the network, for instance by iTunes. Listen to MP3s using the headphones, or the kitchen ghetto blaster.

MythTV is an open source video management application. Launch MythTV from Applications > Sound & Video > MythTV Frontend.

To switch from MythTV to another workspace, use <ctrl>+<alt>+<left> and <ctrl>+<alt>+<right>. To quit MythTV, use the escape key. The escape key will escape the current menu. Escaping the main menu will ask if you want to quit MythTV.

Web Sites

The Zeroconf Service Discovery applet lists web sites available on the Coop network. This applet is in the right side of the panel at the top of the screen.

MediaWiki contains editable documentation about the Coop computer and network. The original version of this document is located in MediaWiki, so you can add to it.

MediaWiki is the same software as Wikipedia, so you can use the same procedure to edit it. More help is available in the MediaWiki Help navigation item.
